So the theory is that Tom Cruise is not completely him in most of his movies. This particular rumor is about his backside.
While most famous figures don’t even bother to respond to or clarify the ridiculous stories swirling around their name Tom did and I don’t believe him.
But after weeks of rampant speculation, Tom Cruise was finally forced to address the persistent rumor that he wore a fake butt for one of his films nearly a decade ago. (Yes, really.)
According to CNN, the controversy started in August 2017, when a Twitter user by the name of @iluvbutts247 tweeted about their theory that “for one single shot in Valkyrie (2008), at 5:12, Tom Cruise wears a fake butt.”
The butt theorist shared a telling screenshot of Tom’s admittedly prominent derriere during an action sequence to back up their claim.
The tweet went viral, with over 17,000 retweets and 67,000 likes. It seems like many people were completely on board with the idea that the 55-year-old actor used some form of rear deception (either a prosthetic or an actual body double).
But in a September 26, 2017, interview with Screen Rant about his new film, American Made, Tom finally cleared up the rumors once and for all.
“I have no idea [about the rumor]. There was no prosthetic in Valkyrie. No. […] It’s me. It’s not CGI, it’s me. I do my own mooning in films. So let it be known — I do my own mooning,” he said.
Tom’s personal trainer for Valkyrie, Wes Okerson, echoed the actor’s sentiments in an interview with Men’s Health: “It’s real […] He was working long hours, and we were training every single day. Definitely, definitely real. He does his own stunts. It’s pretty well-documented.”
So, there you have it — Tom’s butt is all his own. No padding required.
